Windows Media Player

When I play a video on Windows Media Player the computer will lock up and I will have to Manually kill power to restart.

Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to make it stop. I like to view videos with Media Player on my PC.

I do not know where to start.

Thanks for the help.

Tim

Thats weird. It sounds like something else is causing this. If it happens often you could run Process Monitor to see what other programs are "talking" while Media Player is running. These kinds of random problems are usually the hardest to solve. It could be a driver or something not installed or corrupt or a codec problem. Downloading another player would also tell you if its just media player, which it probably is. In that case I would get a program like gspot and keep track of what codec is causing it. Looking in Device Manager (Sound, video and game controllers) could also tell you which one could be having a problem.
