Guest Nellie2
I would run system file checker........the way I get to it is Start, programmes, accessories, system tools then click on system information.A window will open up entitled Microsoft System info.. click on tools and in the drop down menu you should see system file checker. Have your 98SE disk with you and if you are missing any system files or if any are corrupt then this 'should' find them.Post back and let us know how you get on and if this solved the problem
andsome
It could pay to uninstall the new software before doing anything else. As you now have the 98CD you can always reinstall afterwards. You could try running the 98 CD now that you have found it, and select INSTALL. I have done this in the past when I used 98SE. This will not put a new 98 on top of the old one, it should merely replace missing or corrupt files. It always worked for me.

Guest Nellie2
If you go into control panel and double click 'system' your system properties box will pop up. Click on the device manager tab... scroll down to where the offending USB doo dah is... it looks a bit like a three pronged fork and will probably have a yellow question mark or exclamation mark on it. Right click on it, a menu will pop up which will give you the option to remove it.
Guest Nellie2
ps......do make sure you are taking the right one off. If you aren't sure then it is probably better to leave it
bugsonfilm.com
yep there was question marks in the 'other ????' folder, where our leaflet also said it would be if there was a prob - so we deleted it - but cant find a way of getting the computer to ''want'' to know the camera or usb when we plug the usb cable in again. Guest Nellie2
I take it you have rebooted the PC without the camera plugged in and then booted again with the camera plugged in???
savage om
Define moving file. Is moving file-- .Avi? Divx? Gif animations (like my logo)? Gui animations (like the task bar/internet explorer logo)? Is it games?3D/animated/polygon image rendering tasks?Define freeze. Does the entire computer lock up?Does it lock with a screenshot of the last thing you were doing (example- hitting the play button on the file), or does it play for a moment, then freeze after a period of time?Do you mean freeze, or 'goes extremely slow'?Does the little hard drive light keep blinking whenever it freezes?I find it too weird for this kind of error to be associated with a USB driver
bugsonfilm.com
nellie2 - rebooted yes. Havn't tried rebooting WITH cam plugged in so will give that a go.savage om - worked it out by software used. PaintShopPro works (Stills).Media player allows selection of avi to be picked in browse but computer freezes when OK is clicked -freezes = screen just stays as is, mouse moves but will not effect anything anywhere on screen. Also use Premiere for editing - this program begins to open but now never gets there.NB the two files found to to suspect in the 'check systems' were:user.exestartup.dll extra software (we dont use was loaded) - video streaming software - we are going to uninstall this. There should be a big button on all computers "remember what yor computer ran like before messing with it" Am backing files at mo - then will try a few things suggested and return with outcome. bugsonfilm.com
usb now intalled - thanks and win98 reinstalled to replace some needed filesPROBLEM still exists with programes that run moving image - the computer freezes (wont respond to mouse commands)premiere initialises but stays initialising and does not progress to working programthe folder 'other devices' from device manager got deleted for some reason but we are not sure what was in there - it had an exclamation mark by it - maybe this is what the computer is searching for?regards
madboy33
on the other devices folder, click on the plus sign and see what the offending item is that is missing
bugsonfilm.com
the 'other devises' folder itself is now missing. there were three items in it - all with yellow exclamation marks and someone was too quick at deleting them - I watched them go but did not register what the titles were. andsome
I seriously think that if this was me, I would by now have reached the stage where I would save everything that I wanted to CD, and reinstall Windows. Just a point of view of course, but I think you are now flogging a dead horse.
bugsonfilm.com
have been saving stuff, with this in mind. Thanks for all the thoughts on this one.RegardsSteve
