Hi ! Congratulations with this amazing forum ! Very helpful !

I looked around to find answer to this question, but didn't.

so I thought this was a good reason to post a new topic :D

I've got windows XP pro installed on the " D:" drive ( with all my \Programs files, (alot of programs) ) ,

and on the " C:" drive i've installed XP MCE 2005, so it's completly new B) .

Now, what I'd like to know is: Is it possible to make programs usable in both OS's ?

Otherwise i'd have to install them again on my XP MCE 2005,

and that would be a painful waste of memory

Thank you for reading this post ... ;)

and hopefully thankyou for the answer :D

No, not from one installation of the program.

Programs invariably install themselves in several parts of the operating system, a number of then hidden. For example they will make alterations to the registry, add things to the dll cache and so on. This hidden code will only be accessible to the operating system that the program was installed on.

pops is right, if its a basic app, you might just experiment, and run it from the path on disk, if it's looking in the registry for example, you will find sometimes it won't be configd and app won't find its reqd info, which some apps run a default scenario for these cases, but may have other calls after the app is running, so it's dangerous (they don't debug for this in development, unless they have tons of dev dollars), it's just too rare. You may install in both os's,but that does not mean you will have to have to separate install copies, just 2 configs. ask microsoft as these two os's are similar, and you may just experiment with a few apps. notepad.exe will run anyhere win, but Maya probably won't, nor anything very complex, which will look for persistant data, written to your os, in various possible places.
