Not so wireless router

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Bought my bro a Linksys wireless broadband router and network adaptor for his xmas. He has a psp and xbox 360, so I thought I'd get him all the wireless stuff to set his pc up on a wireless network so all his other toys could share the network too. I chose the Linksis Belkin because its what I have and it was so simple to set up. The problem now is, I have the old telewest cable modem (grey in colour) where it uses an RJ45 (I think?) cable from the modem to the computer. My bro has the new telewest modem (black in colour) which uses a USB cable to connect it to his machine.

Now the router set up requires the cables to get it up and running (EG: old telewest modem) and my bros set up is USB (new telewest modem). Anyone got any ideas? I havent been up to look at it yet to see if I can problem solve it because its gonna be a few days before I see him again. I just thought I'd post it here possibly for an instant answer

I recently had cause to assist someone whose BY (black if I recall correctly) modem was approx 18mths old, it had been set up using the USB cable, but there was also an ethernet rj45 socket in the modem. I've heard that most new users initially set up their BY modem this way as the USB cable is/was the most recognisable cable they came across. Plus the BY/TW engineers and BY self installation pack instructions were favouring this method for supposed simplicity.

If you can find out the model of modem he has we can check the manual for it
