-pops- Posted January 1, 2007 Report Share Posted January 1, 2007 Re-installing XP on to a new/reformatted drive will require re-activation. Whether this re-installed system is acceptable to the MS "activator" depends on how close it is to the setup that that the activator already knows about in connection with that Product Key.There is a method available where you can store the file with the activation information on a floppy disk ready for the new setup but, whenever I've tried to use it, it didn't work.Microsoft are quite helpful in cases like yours and, if you do have to phone them in connection with your re-install, provided they consider you are genuine, they will give you all the assistance they can and provide a new activation code. Make sure you have a pen and paper handy if you do have to do this as it is a very long string of numbers that you are given. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
