(ext)HDD (WinXP) -files-> Laptop (Vista) help

Last year I had a desktop PC, I sold it and kept the internal HDD with all my data. Now I am going to get a Laptop with Windows Vista, I would like to directly connect up my old HDD to it using an external HDD case - however I might not be able to gain access to the files because the HDD contains the XP OS and is not a dedicated external drive/slave.

If so can anyone help, there must be a work around or maybe Vista will let me?

Thanks,

hens

I had a similar situation to you last year and bought an external 3.5" USB hard drive caddy for about £30 to house a hard drive swapped out from my dektop computer.

I was able to transfer all my files via the USB link and now use the home made external drive for taking regular Acronis back-ups of my laptop hard drive.
