rottie2 Posted January 4, 2007 Report Share Posted January 4, 2007 Umm i guess a clicking sound from the hd isn't good?I had a few clicks n now my pc won't pick up my hd, its not my main one but it is the one I store all my fave bits in u know family pics, music, downloads, programs etc n now my pc can't find it I am unsure what to do.I'm not very pc minded, don't have another 2 check my hd on and money is bit tight?Does anyone know of any freeware that may help? or any suggestions ...please?? -pops- Posted January 4, 2007 Report Share Posted January 4, 2007 A ticking or clicking hard drive is bad news. If your computer is unable to find the drive now, it is even worse news. It is unusual, though, that a drive fails suddenly like yours appears to have done. Didn't it give any more warning that what you reported here?There are some file recovery programs but they aren't either aren't very good or are enormously expensive. You have the added problem as well that the drive is not now being seen.Can I suggest that before going any further that you open the case and check that all the cables to the drive (and the other end of the IDE cable) are fully pushed home.I'm assuming you don't have a backup of the drive. Wasn't exactly sure which bits but pushed anything n everything i could, switched it back on n it was there!! all bits in tact!! n - 1/2 pound dust too!!I'm gonna do a backup now 2 make sure I don't lose anything. -pops- Posted January 4, 2007 Report Share Posted January 4, 2007 I'm pleased that you got it going again.The easiest (and cheapest i.e. no cost) way to keep your eye on potentially failing hard drives is to check in the event viewer periodically.Try to ensure you have a backup of your system AND everything that is of any value to you. :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
