JesseJ1935
I have been out and bought a drive bay panel, as much as anything to get audio connections on to the front of my computer. Unfortunately the only one I could find has a lot of other stuff on it which I don't really want, such as a card reader and extra USB ports, I suppose I can leave them disconnected though. All I wanted was audio and firewire, so if anyone knows where I could get one please tell me.Meanwhile, if I'm stuck with the one I have, I would appreciate it if someone could match up the wires for me.On the motherboard, ASUS A7V8X-MX, they aare shown as below:BLINE_OUT_L Line out_L NCBLINE_OUT_R Line out_R+5VA MICPWRAGND MIC2On the cable from the panel, they are:MIC-RMIC-LFRONT-RFRONT-LREAR-RREAR-LGNDBASSCENTERAs for the Firewire connections, I have bought a PCI Card as the motherboard doesn't have any connections for it. On the face of it, it looks simple enough, there is a plug, similar to the plugs on a power supply, that looks as though it just plugs into the card. What has me a little confused is that on the panel it looks as though this cable is coming from the USB ports, not the firewire, but it is the only cable that can be directly plugged in.So a bit of advice on that as well will be very much appreciated. Don't want to get the connections wrong and blow it up.
Alan2273
All that information should be in the motherboard manual, if you do not have one, you can get a PDF version from here.http://www.motherboard.cz/driver/asus.htm
Alan2273
AS far as the PCI card is concerned you have me confused, a PCI card draws its power from the PCI slot, there is no PSU connection, the only connector sticking out of a PCI firewire card is generally for connecting a front firewire port to.Or have i misunderstood the question you are asking?. JesseJ1935
Thank you Alan. The manual, which I have, shows the connections as in my post, the connections on the Drive Bay Panel are different. What is needed is advice from somebody who knows which ones go where. As to the site you told me, I'm not looking for drivers, just where to make the connections, but thanks for trying. I've made a note of the site for future reference.
JesseJ1935
I think you have misunderstood Alan. Or, maybe I haven't been clear enough. As I said in my previous reply, I have the manual but the markings on the motherboard connections are different to the markings on the wires, I need advice on which wires connect where. As to the PCI card, it has a socket on it which takes a plug very similar to those on a power supply. On the wires from the panel there is a plug which will go into this socket but it looks as though it could be for the USB ports instead of Firewire. All it does is to give me a Firewire port on the front of the computer in the panel, it does not supply any power.
Alan2273
The link I gave you is for the manuals, drivers and BIOS updates. The firewire connector block looks exactly the same as a USB connector block, as long as it is labelled just connect it.
