Explorer takes long to explore network

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I work on an XP SP2 workstation which is connected to a LAN with other workstations. Server is a Windowss Server 2003.

When I open the windows explorer, choose Network/Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network, the explore takes a while (30 sec) to respond. Finally, the local network is visible.

I open the local network, and explorer spends another minute without responding to the system.

Why is this? How can I solve it? Funnily, we have workstations that don't behave that way, respond instantly.

Thanks in advance!

Cz.

I've always wondered about this too. I thought they all just took a while except for ones that have cached the info or workgoup computer. Sorry I don't have an answer I just wanted to say your not the only one. My guess is its a tcp/ip setting. Something like TTL or something and all the computers its trying to browse are no longer connected so the TTL gets maxed out. Theres probably a registry fix for this.
