Tom S Posted January 9, 2007 Report Share Posted January 9, 2007 Ok, my freind said his computer could not connect to the internet throught his new verizon dsl internet after it had worked before. so he called Verizon and they had said that they didnt know and to call Dell to see if they could help. So he did that and they told him that his computer threw away its ip address and they wanted $40 to do it for him and put it back on. (This all probably happened because of smaller siblings in his house that did something by mistake). Well anyways i am pretty good with this sort of stuff and i know i have to so i told him i would try to find the awnser to his problem before he would have to pay $40 to get it fixed by Dell. So my question is how do i get his ip address back or get him a new one? I know i can do it through Command Prompt but i dont wanna screw anything else up by giving him a new one or using the wrong command.Help would be greatly appriciated! cozofdeath Posted January 9, 2007 Report Share Posted January 9, 2007 Verizon should of helped more, they really suck in the support department. There are two kinds (internal, external) of ipv4 ips. If he lost his internal ip trackrats method will work but restarting or Windows connection would have solved this. If its his external different methods have to be used. So if this doesn't work type ipconfig /all and post the output on here if you can. Is he using a wireless router/modem?You can also type ipconfig > filename.txt to convert the output to a file and copy it to a floppy or something to get it to your computer.
