Coreper Posted January 11, 2007 Report Share Posted January 11, 2007 in this post i will name the explorer which opens the My Computer, My Documents, etc. shortcuts as the My Computer Explorer, the other explorer mentioned in this post is the Windows Explorer, which you can access trough the Windows Explorer shortcut, note that these two explorers are different.We all know the Windows Explorer right?you can access it by using the shortcut on oyur desktop, the explorer.exe file in your C:\Windows folder or by pressing the Windows Logo + E keys [on your keyboard]this explorer is [as i noted above] different from the My Computer Explorersomething weird has happened to it on my computer: it seems to miss every icon and other stuff: it only displays the textyou can see a screenshot of this hereas you can see all the standard toolbars are selectedthis probably is the result of a patch to the Windows Explorer, which i used a long while ago to make a Windows Vista visual style work properly [never actually used it], which i never should have used :(i never actually use the Windows Explorer, but i do use the My Computer Explorer, because it like that much moreis there a way to restore my explorer.exe file? or do you know which files can be corrupted?please dont give me a .dll scanner, because i have got Xpize installed, so very much .dll files are changed, and i dont think this is caused by Xpize.btw: ive been having this problem for a very long time, but it never really bothered me, but i still thought it was strange so now i ask!please helpthanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Scarecrow Man Posted January 11, 2007 Report Share Posted January 11, 2007 You could use the System File Checker to extract just the explorer.exe file, but I am unsure of how to do this in Windows XP. cozofdeath Posted January 11, 2007 Report Share Posted January 11, 2007 I could be possible if you open your task manage and find explorer.exe, right click on it and end it. The after the desktop disappears go to the applications tab in task manager and click the new task button and type sfc /scannow. You may have to do a restore for this kind of problem. But what kind of patch was it? Was it an installer? If it was usually uninstalling will fix any affected files or sometime they create backups. [or something like that] and then it does its jobi cant seem to remember any backup, i also cant find any backupwould it be possible to replace the explorer.exe file by one that comes from a computer that does have an explorer.exe that does work properly?btw: i checked and my explorer.exe is 1,13 MB and another one [working one] is 0,98 MB Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Scarecrow Man Posted January 11, 2007 Report Share Posted January 11, 2007 I think doing sfc /scannow will replace all your non-system files (including the xpize files). Coreper Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2007 well, i just figured it out: :lol: :D nothing was corrupted, but a bunch load of settings have been edited:i fixed it by:-putting all the buttons back [like previous, next, folders, etc]-unlocking toolbars and setting them to their right position-applying a setting that allows the text to be shown properlymy excuse for not having tried this earlierso this problem is solverd, thanks for all your helpbut i still have a question: is it normal that you can have all toolbars enabled in Windows Explorer?and i have another problem [i could make a new topic about it, if you think its more usefull]:in Internet Explorer the McAfee SiteAdvisor toolbar and the Neowin.net toolbar are mixed up:if you click to disable the MA toolbar, it disables the Neowin.net toolbar, and the other way aroundstrange enough this problem doesnt occure in the Windows Explorer or the My Computer Explorerplease helpthanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
