SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. This is a problem ive been trying to fix for the longest time and was never greeted with an explanation on how to fix it. First off, I have Ubuntu on my SATA drive ( which is a linux type work station ).

I previously had windows but I installed Ubuntu because I wanted to program my own things with it. But my family has been complaining and now Im trying to install Windows XP Home Edition onto this computer. But, everytime when I get to the blue screen where it says " To Continue installing Windows XP press ENTER " and my keyboard doesnt work! My computer ( Dell Dimension 9100 ) has no default keyboard port but instead has alot of usb ports. Can someone please tell me first why this happens and secondly how I can fix it.

THANK YOU... SERIOUSLY

Welcome to the Windows Forum!

I had a very similar problem recently, on another Dell machine - the USB keyboard was not recognized during startup, preventing me from doing anything like Safe Mode, BIOS setup, or reinstalling Windows.

That computer had the keyboard connected to a USB port on the monitor. I removed it from the monitor and connected to a USB on the main chassis, and it worked!

If this does not help you, are you sure you don't have a PS/2 port on that Dell?

You could always get an adapter/converter. I have one.

Panarchy -- That's a really great avatar you've got there..

SHUT THE **** UP
I can read lips , ( small one's they may be )

Can someone please tell me first why this happens and secondly how I can fix it.

I hate to say but , You might need to just take it to a computer shop and pay to have it done...

If you have no PS/2 keyboard port then you're going to play hell getting it to work..

First off thanks for replying to this. and secondly . No this computer does not have a ps/2 port and all i have is usb. I do plug my keyboard directly into the main cpu and no there is no usb port in my screen. So does anyone think that I should just buy the adapter and see if it works? I would like to know if anyone has done this EXACT same thing. Im concerned that if i plug the adapter.. into the usb... and the ps/2 into the adapter that it still wouldnt work because I am pretty sure the adapter wouldnt do jack :censored: because its still hooked up to the usb in the cpu.. which shuts off. SOOO :censored: CONFUSING!

P.S. - I do have something that looks similar to a ps/2 port which looks like it but it has 6 holes starting with 3 on top. 2 in the middle and 1 at the bottem. I think its for the mouse.
