DOHCMustangGT Posted January 24, 2007 Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 I've recently had a problem getting on certain pages; they'll just click over and over, or send an error message. I've tried both IE7 and Firefox with the same results. I've also shut down all Windows and McAfee security except the anti-virus, but still failed to load some pages. I’ve even cleared all cookies and IE history with no luck.My first problem is with the MTSU login for PipelineMT. After logging on I get an error page that says "Timed out from inactivity or logged out from a previous session" and then it goes to another page that reads “browser problem, cookies disabled."I dropped all security as stated above, plus made sure cookies were enabled and ActiveX junk. I set IE7 to the default levels after trying to drop all security, but I still had no luck.The MTSU help desk could not resolve that issue and told me they had other people call with the same problem. When they ever figure out the fix, they’re supposed to call me back, but it’s been a week already.The other example is like Comcast had a link to a Disney cartoon. I tried to watch it, but the page just kept clicking and trying to load. I’ve had this happen on a lot of sites and can’t figure out WTH is up. Shutting down everything (security), or even going to default settings doesn’t help.I’ve got WinXP Media with McAfee. When I use my other PC’s at school, my parents’ house, or my sisters, I have no problem getting on any sites.Any of you know how to fix this? It’s got to be some setting on here messed up, but I can’t figure it out, nor can MTSU help desk IT dept.Here is the two errors I get after I login to PipelineMT.You have either timed-out due to inactivity or have logged out from a previous session.You will be taken to the login page in a moment...If this page does not disappear after a few seconds,click here to go to the login page. Maybe if you can give us a URL, we could try ourselves.The link is here: http://mtsu36.mtsu.edu/cp/home/loginf but you can't replicate my problem unless you have a valid student user ID and password.Another point is this: I can log on fine at my parents house, on my sisters' pc, and at school on a school PC. My parents and sister both have WinXp on their Sony Vaio PC's with McAfee security center and using Comcast high-speed internet service. I also have a Sony Vaio but with WinXP Media center and all else being the same as the other Vaio PC's. The School PC's are all Dell or MAC's. My sisters' PC is in the same room as my PC running off the same cable modem and router as my PC and it has no problems loading any site - including the MTSU PipelineMT that I can't get on. If it weren't an inconvenience, I'd just use her PC on sites I can't get on, but we both go to college and work full time, so we can't stand in line sharing a PC. cozofdeath Posted January 26, 2007 Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 Its possible that your cookie folder has been made unwriteable. People do this to avoid cookies but this is usually something you have to change. Do you have xp pro? Another thing is make sure your active contenct (java, javascript, etc) is turned on. Can you list what kind of security softwares you have installed (anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall)?Also, are you sure that your system is free of any malware? Safe mode works and I can get on the sites that I can't get on when in regular mode. while in safe mode - start-run-msconfig go to startup tab and disable all that's 'checked' reboot your box normally, see if website works, if it does, go to msconfig again enable half the items (or if you're patient do 1item-1restart) restart, check your www, if it works enable second half, if it doesn't try 1 by 1. you might also want to disable non-ms services if problem persits in normal mode.good luck Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I recently had to do this myself because of a software conflict. Many times anti-malware products will create a service to start so they can't easily be shut down by malware.
