jp525 Posted February 8, 2007 Report Share Posted February 8, 2007 I did a clean install on a new drive of ultimate. the plan was to take the old drive ,leave xp on it but make it the secondary. Vista works fine, in the bios I can see both drives properly identified as primary and secondary. I can see them in the device manager, but the secondary drive will not mount, it does not show up in my computer. If I switch the pins and cable and put it back as master it boots and runs fine. am I missing something, is this a vista surprise. what next, i have tried jumper settings. the new drive is a WD(250) and the secondary is a Maxtor(40) I dont want to format the 40 and lose the files. any ideas? thanks for your input. I installed a 256 video card and vista runs like it should, but still no access to the old 40 gig. it shows up in device manager any other ideas?
