Scarecrow Man
Does anyone know of a free service to get a detailed history of a car, by searching the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)? It may be different in the UK compared to Canada and the US, but I was just wondering if anyone had come across this before.I know of a few, like http://www.carfax.com but they are all paid services. Just wondering if anyone know of a free service.Oh, and yes I am getting a new car. I will post some pic's when I get it B)

stephmayes
Scarecrow man,Now this is the field I could help you with if you were in the UK. There are several sites in UK to check the authenticity of a vehicle, some free (although very very basic) and the rest, levels of payment for the same service but depending on how much you pay depends on the amount of information it comes back concerning the vehicle you are intersested in.I have search what I think is the U.S equivilant and I have found this..Again has a free service but has levels of payment for further information. I the U.S one is the same as the UK one then the free one wont tell you if its stolen or not. It will probably tell you if it has any outstanding finance on it etc..I cant emphasise enough how important and worthy, never mind peace of mind it is just to pay the top service for the check on the vehicle. If its like the UK you could quite easily buy a ' cut and shut' (2 stolen vehicles in one) having used just the free vehicle service check which came back as nothing to worry about and all clear. !I may have found this one your side of the worldwww.is-it-a-lemon.comHope this helpsSteph
Scarecrow Man
Thanks to both of you, I will keep that in mind when I go to buy the new car.I've decided to hold off for a little while on my purchase, as my dad has let me use his old work car for now. The price was right (free) so it will work for now. :)
