system restore incomplete

I was doing a system restore, actually I have tried several times and it goes through the motions and when it restarts my computer i get the message "System Restore Incomplete, your system has not been restored to an earlier date." It just starts back on the desktop right where I was before I attempted to do a system restore. Why and what are the reasons that I get this message? Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problem might be?

I've never found System Restore to be reliable - it has let me down several times and I now never use it.

I keep up-to-date full system backups in preference to System Restore.

You can attempt to get SR going again by opening Control Panel -> System -> System Restore and tick the box stating "Turn Off System Restore". Reboot the computer then go through the procedure to turn SR on again. You will lose any restore points you have but, as you are unable to access them anyway, there is no real loss.

This may be interesting click here to learn more about SR and what it will or will not do.

Bert Kinney's site click here gives some illustrations of programs which prevent SR from working properly and how to repair it.
