louieb
I have a workgroup set up on my home network. The network is a mix of PC's running XP and Linux.I expected setting up Vista file and printer sharing to be similar to XP's. The network is connected together through a Netgear wireless router. The Vista PC is a new Acer Aspire laptop. I have internet via the wireless router. But I haven't been able to get the Vista machine to see any of the computers in the workgroup. And I would like to set it up so that it prints to a HP 7660. The printer is connected to a PC that is running XP. I have no trouble getting PC's w XP or Linux to join the workgroup and use the printer. But the new Vista PC is another story. Any suggestions? Any suggestions?I added a new Vista PC in a samall wired network last week. It took longer than normal, but it worked. I haven't tried sharing anything wirelessly with Vista, but there may be a few pot-holes based on what I ran into. If you decide to set them up in a wired network and need help, let me know. Thanks,Tony
nellie2
There is a basic How To here http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...99265e1033.mspxBut I found a thread on another forum with someone having the same problems as yourself and some good solutions suggestedhttp://help.lockergnome.com/vista/Mixed-Vi...opict27376.html
louieb
Thanks all. I kept going round and round using the window help for a guide. After looking at nelle2's lockergnome post. Well this PC came with a trial version of Norton Internet Security. I turned off the Norton firewall and turned on the windows firewall on.Ran network discovery again for the 100 time and it found the other PCs on the network and is printing. Norton have a lot to answer for. It causes more problems than anything I have ever used. My new PC was supplied with a trial version, but I wouldn't even dream of turning it on.
