stephmayes
HiI have an IBM Thinkpad T20 which takes PC133 SDram. I think ?I have gone onto cruicial in order to determine what compatible type of memory i can buy as i want to upgrade from 256 to 512 and it tells me the T20 uses PC133 SODIMM ..I have 2 slots available...at the min there are 2 x 128's in there. However i have gone onto ebay and it appears that there are SODIMM's and SDRAM's that look the same ? What is the difference and wil both work in the T20 ?ThanksSteph
-pops-
Ignoring what the differences are for the moment, take the advice of the Crucial calculator - they know what they are doing. Personally, I would buy from Crucial as well - you have a guarantee then if things aren't quite right.Regarding what the two types are, for SODIMM click here. For SDRAM click here. Scarecrow Man
All memory can be referred to as a DIMM.A DIMM or dual in-line memory module comprises a series of random access memory integrated circuits. These modules are mounted on a printed circuit board and designed for use in personal computers. DIMMs began to replace SIMMs (single in-line memory modules) as the predominant type of memory module as Intel's Pentium processors began to control the market.SO-DIMM has 140 or 200 pins, which makes it very popular in space limited systems like a laptop.SDRAM however is larger and has 164 pins. It was also the standard in most desktop systems (now phased out by DDR, which is quickly being phased out by DDR2).
