Toshiba P20 notebook won't accept SD memory cards

Hi all,

My Toshiba Satellite P20 notebook, which runs Windows XP Home, won't accept SD memory cards.

When I insert my SD card I am told "the disk in drive F is not formatted" (even

though it was formatted on my digital camera when it was purchased). When I click "yes" to format it I am told "the disk in drive F cannot be formatted".

When I run Toshiba SD card format through Toshiba SD card utilities via the

"start" menu I am told "Unexpected Error! Error Code = 0*0340FF00"

I am confident that my SD card is not corrupted as I can send data to my

P20 from my digital camera via a USB connection. However I would

prefer to do this using the SD memory facility.

I hope you are able to solve the problem because I have the same situation with my Sat-Nav and computer.

I bought a new SD card last week and it showed the same messages in the computer as you are getting - I tried to access it in the Sat-Nav but it was not recognised.

I assumed it was a faulty card and returned it to the supplier who tested it, claimed he found no problem and returned it to me formated. It now reads in both my computer and Sat-Nav - but I need to find out what caused the problem - I don't want that fuss every time I buy a new card.

If the card works OK in the camera - I cannot see how it can be faulty.

Has your computer ever been able to read and write SD cards - if not - it could be a problem with the computer card reader or the need for an updated driver.

I Googled for solutions to my problem and found lots of evidence that some cards are incompatible with some card readers. People seem to have most problems with cheap unbranded cards. The info didn't help me because I use premium brand SanDisc cards and my card reader driver is bang up to date.
