I know that his company is using both Mac and Windows machines, so the first question I asked back is whether he wants to do it on the Mac or on Windows.Naturally he doesn't know that either :D So my question to you is: what (free) tools are available on or for the Mac to develop a website?Any other suggestions regarding web development on Mac vs. Windows? mcb2001 Posted April 4, 2007 Report Share Posted April 4, 2007 i would do it on windows or mac, doesn't really mather...If you choose windows, you can get a good line of free programs to help you, dont know about mac.(Stones webwriter f.x.)But either way, if you choose to "hardcode" it, its just a standard text editor you need...If you got CS or CS2 (Adobe Creative Suite) i guess its on the mac, and then i would use the CS to create the website.Last thing, if your planing on doing a dynamic webpage (php, asp or jsp) i would suggest that you use some program to do the design (CS if you have)then move it to a windows computer, since the support for php, asp and jsp are higher on windows then mac.BUT with that said, i would, without doubt, test the site on both windows (firefox, IE6, IE7, opera) and on mac (firefox, safari).To make sure it looks at you expect it too on all systems. It is open source and comes under the Mozilla Public License.I've had a quick play with it and it does seem simple to use.Edit:User Guide from click here. nellie2 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Share Posted April 5, 2007 If you are coding for Windows and Mac then you need to test the website to make sure it displays correctly in Safari as well as the Windows platform browsers like IE and Firefox.Browsershots is quite good but takes some time to load... and it's only screenshots. I start to get the feeling that I need to tell my friend to seek some professionals to build their company website. Otherwise I will probably end up having it to do myself...Of course it will be a Japanese website, so he may have to use a Japanese web tool.
