trackrat Posted April 17, 2007 Report Share Posted April 17, 2007 If you can boot into safe mode, do a system restore from there.Select safe mode, then when you are at the desktop you may be offered the choice of continuing in safe mode or system restore, if not click / start / all programme / accessories / system tools / system restore and restore to any date you wish. She has all her school homework on the PC without spare copies. The PC came without any CD nor instruction/manual. WinXP can't start hanging on desktop with background picture displayed. However I can start it on Safe Mode.Her WinXP box is in complete mess. I found she installing dozens of software with their starting icons linked on desktop. She saved her homework all on desktop, having .doc, htm, txt, pdf, etc. format. She even saved her homework created with PhotoImpact on desktop. I searched the Program folder of PhotoImpact and can't find them.Now if I restore to original configure would her homework be erased. She has no spare copy. trackrat Posted April 17, 2007 Report Share Posted April 17, 2007 If you open the system restore box it gives you the dates in bold that you can restore to.All the documents "should" stay intact , it is only new programs installed after the restore date and any updates that would be lost.You can always undo the restore anyway.You could always use the search box to find files just type the acronym in.
