G Man Posted April 25, 2007 Report Share Posted April 25, 2007 Have upgraded my OS (after a severe virus crashed Windows 98 - yet again!) I now have Windows 2000. Am trying to install Office 2000 but it keeps getting to the same point in the install and giving me an error message about not being able to read from the Font file Garait on my HDD. What I've noticed is that it wants to load "garait.tff" from the Windows Font directory but my file in Windows 2000 is called "garait_0.tff" Have tried to rename it but that option is greyed out. Have tried deleting it and installing the font from Win98 called "garait.tff" but it automatically renames it "garait_0.tff" again. What can I do??? So let's try to find out what your problem is, and what we can do about it.My first guess is that the Garait font is not correctly installed. I don't know if this font is part of Windows or Office, but you can try to search both Windows and Office CDs, and see if the font is on there. When you find it, try to install it from Control Panel -> Fonts.The "garait_0.tff" is a little puzzle by itself; I cannot imagine how TTF gets renamed to TFF (unless it's a typo). Check your Windows font files to see is this font is correctly installed.The font is installed and I can open it in the font viewer program. I made a little typo on the filename. Details are as follows:Font Name: Garamond Italic File Name: GARAIT_0.TTF Size: 185KBIt opens and tells me it's Garamond Italic (Open Type) V2.30 and has 'the Quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' in various sizes so I assume it's installed correctly.Strangely, I can't choose it in Outlook Express as the font is not there! Normal Garamond is.It won't let me rename the program "GARAIT.TTF" in properties or by using the rename function.Will try uninstalling it and re-installing it from the Windows 2000 disc to see if that works. However he will need to install the complete set of Garamond; but I'm not sure if he has to do each of them together (gara.ttf, garabd.ttf, garait.ttf), or if there is a complete set, e.g. garamond.ttf.
