ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum!Just for clarification: when you say "jumps to 100%", is that just a quick surge, or does it last for a long time?P.S. try to scan with at least one additional malware scan, e.g. AVG Antispyware or SUPERantispyware. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
That is bad, indeed! What I would do, if it happened on my computerI would run a malware scan, e.g. online scan at http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/ and/or http://housecall.trendmicro.com/.Open Task Manager, then start ending all processes, one-by-one, until the explorer's CPU usage stops. Then note which process it was for further investigation.
Coreper
try ending the explorer.exe process, after doing that it should automatically restart the explorer.exe process, if not: click: New Task... and type: explorer.exeyou could also check which process is also using much CPU > goto the ProcessLibrary and check the suspicious processyou could check all your processes just to make sure they are safebtw: did you install something new when the problem occured? deaddudes
hey!i have tried ending and restarting it. it just does the same thing. i hadn't downloaded anything new (that im aware of at least). so this is really baffleing.thanks for process library. i havent heard of this. i ran the free process library and it found over a thousand problems! my guess is that is a bad sign?!try ending the explorer.exe process, after doing that it should automatically restart the explorer.exe process, if not: click: New Task... and type: explorer.exeyou could also check which process is also using much CPU > goto the ProcessLibrary and check the suspicious processyou could check all your processes just to make sure they are safebtw: did you install something new when the problem occured? Scarecrow Man
A thousand "problems"? I cant imagine why you would have that many. I mean an average computer has 30-50 processes running at any given time (for example I have 44) so I find it hard to believe that you have a thousand problems. You might find this KB article may help:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/819946
deaddudes
yeah i couldnt believe it either- this was when i ran the free version of registry booster.... i had already fou\nd the link below and tried both options. the first one worked temporarily. but neither worked long term...thanksvA thousand "problems"? Coreper
could you send us a list or a screenshot of the "problems" found by the process scanner?, or are the problems you got found by the Registry Booster?it isnt really clear to meso:did you use the Process Scanner from the Process Library, or did you use the Registry Booster, or did you use both?and which program found all the problems.?sorry for me not understanding
deaddudes
Thanks for the help everyone! I found a solution (at least for now) for the problem:I was digging through my folders and under C: there were all of these weird folders with names like "arrfwr32rffffesaw" and when i looked at the contents it was all windows exe files etc but capitalised... after googling i found out that these are spyware and/ or viruses. I just threw the folders into the garbage and re booted and haven't had the problem again. I gues we will see if this was a long term solution or not soon...What really baffles me is that none of my anti virus/ spyware programs ever picked it up... Scarecrow Man
It is possible your anti-virus has "healed" the infected files rather than deleted them; thus removing the virus code from the file, but leaving the file itself in place.
