xp activation

Recommended Posts

im trying to to install xp on a computer that my friend gave me to fix. the problem is that i had to replace the hard drive but he does not have an xp install disk, but there is a sticker on the computer chasis that has an xp key. I was wondering if installed xp on his computer with my copy, and then used magic jellybean to change the key to the one on his computer, would i be able to activate windows. THIS IS NOT PIRATED SOFTWARE. the softwar is legal i have a legal key, i just dont think that it is fair for someone who lost their xp disk to have to go out and buy a new one.

even if you would manage to install windows xp, and change the license key, windows will still stay illegal: because the license key you gave has already been activated

if you try to edit the license key with a not-windows tool, that will be illegal

to be honest, i also have used the jellybean editor, but it never worked perfectly with me

a easier way is to use the standard windows wizard:

when windows says your windows is invalid, it will start a countdown for you computer to stop working [in days]

when that period is windows will ask you for a new product key, if that occures, you can use the serial key on the computers case, and make sure you activate windows through the internet > it works [ive tried]

but i dont remember if the wizard appears in normal mode when you try to login, or not.

here is an article about changing the license key in a legal windows-way: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328874

another usefull link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295 [i think this describes how to do whay i recommend]
