Some hidden files in the Windows directory

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

This is my 1st post after my registration in here. I have a question. So plz don't mind if its silly, :D

I have noticed that in Windows XP, in the windows directory, there are many compressed hidden files by the name of $NtUninstallKB929969$ and many others also. these folders contain 3 files: spuninst, eula.txt & a DLL file.

My question is: what are these?

where have they come from?

Is it related to the OS/Service Pack in some way?

Can i delete them and what would happen if i do?

Thanks!

The first file is a compressed Windows update un-install file. The second is an SP un-install file, third a text file of an End User Licence Agreement and the third Dynamic Link Library file.

I would recommend that you leave them alone unless you know exactly what you are doing with them and the consequences if anything goes wrong.

Welcome to Windows Forum and please don't apologise that your question is silly. Very few questions are silly and we will always try to give an answer if we can.
