gordythegouge
Hi All,I have an extremely sad story to tell! My wife, who is manager of a very small local museum, which is run by a Trust and it's assortment of Trustees, has a problem....which has gravitated to me....as usual. The trustees... in their wisdom...decided that the museum should join the 21st Century and get a Broadband Connection instead of the old Dial-up 56Kb modem! They organised the equipment and contract and one of the Trustees...installed the Broadband.. which seemed to be working...albeit in the wrong user ie Accounts instead of Office user. This is where things started going wrong! They had no Firewall installed, the AVG Anti-virus was out of date to the extent that there's no way to update the software as it was the old 6.01 engine as a opposed to the newer 7 plus engine! To cap it all.......SP2 hadn't been installed or even downloaded!!! I got Zonealarm free edition installed as a first, and then tried to install SP2 from a download of my own, with various error messages and the unable to install message being high on the list.My wife went on to the accounts user yesterday and IE7 must have upgraded itself and now I can't get online at all as everytime I try to use IE it hangs the PC and indeed doesn't show in the Task Manager window as an option to close!!! I've tried to get in touch with the ISP (Eclipse) but they use Office hours and won't be available till Monday morning. Can anyone help?Gordy

gordythegouge
System restore? Back up?I'll probably have to go down that route assuming I can't make any progress with the ISP tomorrow but it's admitting defeat and to be honest....if they've been using this PC to pay bills on-line, in an un-updated (security wise) way.....I don't know what possible viruses and trojans there may be already stored on the hard drive.....and until I can get online and get the AVG up-to-date and a full scan done......I won't be able to find out! Help ma boab!
