ithonicfury Posted June 11, 2007 Report Share Posted June 11, 2007 No need to ship it off to the junk heap because a small configuration issue.The following applies if your not on a domain, and using XP Pro (not sure if it will work on XP Home, but one may).Go to start > run, and type in "control userpasswords2" go to the Advanced tab and uncheck "Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete."Or, Go to the Control Panel, and then to Administrative Tools, and go to "Local Security Policy", then click the plus next to "Local Policies" and click on Security Options. Scroll down to "Interactive Logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL", double click on it and set it to enabled.Or, Go to the Control Panel, go to User Accounts, and click "Change the way Users log on and off" and enable the Welcome Screen, then youd have ot select your username form the list and then type in the password, or it will autologin if you only have one account and it doesnt have a password.If your on a domain, there is a group policy setting to change that behavior, and youd have to take that up with your IT guy. Allowing logon without Ctrl-Alt-Del may allow an intruder to login and take possession of a system. Remote intruders cannot issue Ctrl-Alt-Del on a local system, and therefore will not be allowed to login.Make sure that you have an active firewall before you deactivate Ctrl-Alt-Del. The CTRL+ALT+DELETE sequence can be read only by Windows, ensuring that the information in the ensuing logon dialog box can be read only by Windows.
