Altering the tree view in windows explorer

Hi!

I have a fairly silly question but if I could find the answer it would make my life a lot easier!

Recently I noticed that if I have a link on my desktop to a folder, windows explorer opens in such a way that I can only have the folders I am interested listed in the tree view. What I mean is that the parent folders don't expand so I don't have a long long list of files displayed in the folders view. That means that I can see all the folders I want at the same time without having to scroll up and down the tree looking for the folder I want.

But... I tried applying that to the other drives and it didn't seem to work. When I open the drive everything expands, and when I select a folder in that drive then everything stays expanded so that I again have a long list of files displayed. How can I get it in the format I'm looking for?

Ok... that will probably make no sense at all... but maybe someone will get what I'm saying (and there won't be a solution!)!

I think I follow what you are saying. When I click on say for the sake of argument 'PROGRAM FILES', I am presented with a list with many + signs ready for me to expand. Unfortunately I do not know why you don't get the same, I am assuming that you do not have + signs, but that all the folders are fully opened already. I have no doubt that someone will be able to help, but meantime, please understand that there is NO SUCH THING as a silly question, if it bothers you, and you do not have an answer.

Actually, I've just kind of solved my problem. Some one here said that you can map network drives to folders so all I have to do is click on a new drive (called K or whatever) and go to my folder. Can't do it for the C or D drive though unfortunately.

Anyway... I think I'm good to go now... should save me having to search endlessly through long lists of folders!
