D4\/!d
My daughter's laptop died :( So she's got a new one :)However we want to get the data off the old laptop hard disk.So she got a caddie, inserted the old drive and plugged it into the new laptop. So far so good. The trouble is we can only see one of the two partitions on the old hard drive. The os and programs are on c:, while the Data, yes the data we are trying to get hold of, is on the d:drive and XP explorer will not display it.Any ideas please... rong
Alan2273 suggested in another post that a live Linux Cd would read data on a hard drive, not sure if it is the same with yoursfound it http://www.windowsforum.org/forums/index.p...mp;#entry236308
mcb2001
well, have you down graded to another OS - such as going from XP to 98 or 95...Because then the problem could be that the C drive is FAT32, therefore readable in 98/95 and the D drive is NTFS, and therefore unreadable in 98/95...But since i can't see why you should use an old OS, i would suggest that you get linux cd, and plugs the drive into a computer with a cd/dvd-burner, boot up in linux, burn the data to a couple of cd's, and get on using the new laptop...Just another thought - are you sure the D drive isn't another physical drive in the laptop, that you just missed ? - i haven't seen a laptop with more then one drive in a while though...
