internet connection

I have Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop and it had windows and debian linux installed.

The Debian got some problem and I installed suse linux. But in so doing I messed up the windows (my fault).

I reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition from the Reinstallation CD obtained from the vendor at the time of the

original purchase.

Unfortunately the machine cannot now connect to my broadband internet. I use mozilla-firefox browser.

I know the solution must be easy, but I cannot think of any way out.

Please help.

Are you trying to connect wirelessly? If yes then do you need to install some software for your wireless connection? If no then the first place I would look is device manager to see if there are any little question marks or exclamation marks.

To get to device manager, right click on My Computer, click properties and then the Hardware Tab then click on the Device Manager button. I would be checking to see if there is a problem with the Network adaptors, maybe your Ethernet drivers need updating?

I have an ethernet router connection.

I have been using now linux ( debian and suse now) with dns and machine ip, gateway, netmask, network and broadcast ip-s

written in the appropriate files, and it is working fine.
