Sohail Ahmed Posted July 17, 2007 Report Share Posted July 17, 2007 I am unable to and I am running out of disk space. My outlook PST file keeps growing and my laptop has limited free disk space. I want to archive my old emails etc on a DVD like media. But when I do this then outlook fails to open the file. any suggestions?thanks! Boris Posted July 17, 2007 Report Share Posted July 17, 2007 To restore a .pst file from removable media, such as a DVD, I think you need to copy the backup copy of the file that you just created from the storage media back to the PC hard drive.When you do this, make sure that the Read-Only attribute is cleared. To open it, it must reside on a read/write media such as a HD or memory stick. It also must be on a local storage, not a network device.Yes, I think the files need to be imported back into 'Outlook' as Boris says before they can be opened and read...Sorry, no! Do not use import from (or export to) a PST file - you will inevitably lose data. Just open the file with Outlook, and everything will be fine.To get some space back on your HD or partition, try CCleaner; you will be amazed how much unused crap accumulates on your disk. Babu Posted July 19, 2007 Report Share Posted July 19, 2007 Try ZASystems ZAShare. Their product allows you to share PST file with other multiple users concurrently. They do not require any software installation in outlook or on the client. They only require you to install ZAShare and share the folder that contains PST file an they do the rest. i hope it solves your problem. Sohail Ahmed Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Share Posted August 2, 2007 Thanks everyone!i have purchased ZAShare and it allowss me to open the PST file that is on a DVD in outlook. Without this outlook doesn't let you because outlook always opens the PST file (archived or not) in read/write mode. After outlooks open the PST, it seems to modify the blocks even though as user you didn't make any change to PST file. This is the fundamental reason outlook didn't open the PST file that is on DVD.
