i have connected two pc. one is windows xp operating system and another is windows 2003. but there is a connection problem with these two pc. the icon shows connection but just only data transfer is showing from the both side. but no receive from either side. i checked the cross cable and also IP of the two pc. every thing is perfect. i make both the card 10 mb full duplex and also on mcafee firewall i allow the IP of another pc. but still it shows the same problem. so plzzzzzzz... if anything more i need to do for the connection then send me reply.

Disable any firewall software.

Ensure both computers are part of the same Workgroup/Domain.

Ensure both are on the same Subnet (255.255.255.0 for example, if it is static)

Ensure both have a unique computer name.

Ensure if you are connecting directly, you are using a CROSSOVER cable not a STRAIGHT THROUGH

I have connected two pc. one is running by windows 2003 and another is windows XP. on win 2003 system i connected with one lan card with internet and with another lan card i connected with win xp pc with cross cable. i enable the option "internet connection sharing" in that lan card which i connect with the internet and another lan card i gave 192.168.0.1 and subnet musk 255.255.255.0. in xp pc i gave 192.168.0.2 and same subnet musk. but i can't share the internet. there is no problem to share file between this two pc. so is there any mistake i have done? or what i have to do more for sharing internet?

yes i did this thing before what Scarecrow Man suggested. the truth is before i connected with win xp pc with the internet. i had done before what he suggested. but even i didn't find any solution. i disable my mcafee firewall, bring both the pc in the same workgroup with unique name for every pc, give ip 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 for xp and 2003 pc with the subnet musk 255.255.255.0. in that case both pc just sending data but no receiving. when i ping from each side i couldn't find the another. so i changed and then connected windows 2003 with the internet and win xp with the lan for sharing. this time i got ping response and file sharing but can't get internet sharing. so if any new idea u have plz send me the reply asap.

anyway atlast i solved the problem. actually whenever i gave static IP to the windows 2003 then it can share file with another pc windows xp. but can internet connection though i gave sharing internet permission from xp pc. later on i tried to login in msn messenger from 2003 pc and found gateway it can found but DNS it can't. so i didn't go for complicated and just give automatic detect IP. so later on it can get the DNS too. thanks to the people who gave answers and try to solve my problem.
