Partitioning a c drive

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure how I did this, but when I prepared my new 250GB drive (Seagate), and loaded Vista, I only got the 137GB partition. Is there a way to get the rest of the drive back? even it is under a different partition?

The short answer is yes. Some main boards (intel) have a limit of 137GB as well as some partitioning methods. 'Joining' the remaining space with the current Vista partition can be done via software provided you have no physical limit. To enjoy one huge partition 'resize' the current HDD bits using disk management and Vista's new features. Or any of the ever popular 3rd party tools; Acronis Partition Expert comes to mind, but there are several others. Or create a second partition in the remaining space (attempting thsi will reveal the existance of physical limits, methinks).

Good Luck

i know 2 ways how you could try this:

1. the "complicated" freeware way:

move all the data from one partition to the other partition

then use a program which can delete partitions, like Partition Zapper to delete the empty partition

then resize your other partition to the FULL hd storage capability, using a program which can resize partitions, like Partition Resizer

done!

if everything went as planned, you have a partition which has got the size of the full hd storage capability

2. the "easy" paid way:

use Norton Partition Magic to merge, delete, resize, create and split partitions

for more freeware partition software, search softpedia for "partition" in the freeware catagory
