bricedebrignaisplage Posted August 29, 2007 Report Share Posted August 29, 2007 I messed up while trying to install GRUB on my hard drive, I installed it to hda1 (C:\) instead of installing to the MBR. As a consequence windows doesn't boot anymore. I tried to chainload from a GRUB boot floppy and from Smart Boot Manager, but it fails with a GRUB error. I think I installed GRUB on the PBR of the C:\ drive, thus erasing the first 512 bytes.I tried with a windows bootdisk from bootdisk,com but that didn't work: I tried to scandisk but scandisk doesn't resolve the partition type. Btw it's FAT32 and I'm using windows ME. I tried from Knoppix but that's basically the same problem. And I don't have the installation/rescue CDs. Fdisk has an option to write on the MBR but not on the PBR.Is there anyway I can rescue my windows ME? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
