P.Rudra Posted September 3, 2007 Report Share Posted September 3, 2007 I have a dell inspiron 1150 laptop with SigmaTel audio as default device.I have recently installed Skype videophoning software.While I can see and hear the other party, my voice is not reaching them.In the Skype page there is a x against the microphone icon with the caption that the microphone is muted.Whatever I do I cannot unmute the microphone.I need help and need it urgently.Thanks in dvance. If not, does it work elsewhere?Ensure that the microphone is not muted in the Windows sound controls.I've found that Internet telephones work far better with dedicated telephone hardware (i.e. a Skype [or other] handset) rather than a microphone and speakers. Even better by USB.Sorry, I thought laptops have built-in microphones and I was working on that assumption.In fact, a friend of mine who has a similar (but not identical) dell laptop has built-in microphone.I want to know how I unmute the microphone in the Windows sound control.Thanks. I've not seen any reference to it having a built in microphone though. Are you sure it has this?Have you checked in Sounds and audio devices (via Control Panel) to find details and whether any microphone that may be present is muted?Even so, my point about having a dedicated handset remains valid.
