iTunes Trouble

Every time I plug in my iPod, my computer automatically reboots. There is no blue screen, or "saving settings," it just goes black and reboots. This doesn't happen when I plug in my camera to the USB port, nor does it happen on other computers. I have reinstalled iTunes--it still happens. I've also used process explorer to deinstall iPod service and iTunes helper. I've even uninstalled QuickTime and reinstalled it as a stand alone.

Anybody have any suggestions? At this point, I can't even charge the iPod, let alone load new material onto it.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, with iTunes 7.0.

Most likely your USB connection is not grounded. If you have any other USB plugs available, use them I find connectors at the front are the most finicky, so use a connector at the back if possible.

I tried that too. It didn't work either. Rebooted the whole system, just like the USB in the front.

How about trying the latest version of iTunes 7.4.3? (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/)

Are you able to borrow another iPod to check if the fault is with your computer or with your own iPod?

It's not the iPod, which works on other computers. It's something about iTunes and the configuration of my computer that's causing the problem. I just can't figure out what that is.

I have heard of a similar problem before with iTunes and iPods but I can't remember any details.

Have you looked at any of the dedicated forums or iPod FAQs to see how common this is and, hopefully, a remedy.
