Booting from different harddrive!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have 2 harddrives.

And I am wondering, whether or not it is possible to have a thing (dialog box or whatever) appear before startup (maybe after it says Boot From CD?)

Because on 1 Hard-drive I have Vista.

And on the other I have XP, Solaris & Linux (ubuntu).

Thanks in advanced,

Panarchy

PS: The one that currently boots by default is the Vista one.

It's called a boot manager, and it is part of Windows. When you install a second Windows version on a computer, the boot manager is automatically activated, and will present you with a start menu to prompt you which Windows version you want to boot into.

If you have managed to get multiple Windows version installed without activating the boot manager, then you may need an external boot manager that can handle other systems than Windows as well.

I have BootMagic, the free boot manager that came with PartitionMagic. Not sure if I can still recommend it now that it belongs to Symantec.

P.S. you may still try to use the Windows boot manager, but I know nothing about the Vista boot manager. I have a very thick book on Vista somewhere, but I have never opened it so far...
