leemour Posted October 10, 2007 Report Share Posted October 10, 2007 I recently bought a 9523 Acer laptop which came with Vista. Obviously I am disappointed in it and want to switch back to XP. I tried to install XP but it doesn't find the HD because XP has no SATA driver. Do you know how I can find the appropriate driver?On Intel website .exe file is provided for 945 mobile chipset (i believe it is the one I have). I got drivers out of it by installing it on virtual OS. But XP intallation fails because of error so these drivers do not work. My HD manufacturer is Hitachi and they say I do not need drivers for their HD. I have contacted Acer and they said that they won't supply any other drivers besides ones on their website. The system, motherboard, or controller manufacturer usually supplies these drivers, either on a driver CD or downloadable from their web site. To install the SATA controller drivers you first need to copy the appropriate drivers onto a diskette (controller drivers can be loaded from diskette only).Early in the installation process, you have an opportunity to load third-party controller drivers by pressing ‘F6’. You will have six seconds to press ‘F6’ before the installation process will continue: Press ‘F6’ to install the SATA controller drivers. After pressing ‘F6’, you will come to a screen asking you to press ‘S’ to load additional controller drivers or to press ‘ENTER’ to continue with the installation. Be sure you press ‘S’ to load your SATA controller drivers. After pressing ‘S’, you will be prompted to insert a floppy disk with the updated drivers. Note: the installation process specifically looks at the A: (floppy) drive for the updated drivers. This is a limitation imposed by the installation routine. You cannot load the drivers using any other media. After inserting the appropriate driver diskette, choose which driver you wish to load (if the disk has more than one driver). Make a selection using the up or down arrows and press ‘ENTER’ to install the driver. Once you have loaded the appropriate controller drivers, you may continue with the installation. He istalled drivers there and then send me the files that were installed. Not sure about details. I do not have a floppe in my laptop. Instead I used nLite to create a copy of XP which includes there drivers (they are installed at the very start). By the way will USB floppy drive work during XP installation? This is .exe file. I cannot launch it during XP installation as drivers are hidden inside. And after extracting drivers from it and including them with XP on a CD through nLite I recieved an error during installation - which means that they do not work for me.
