PriorTak
Hi guys.recently I faced an odd problem with my comp: when I load my OS (win xp sp2), right after i insert my user name and password, for a split second I can see the task bar. after that it dissapperes and cant be displayed anymore. as well I cant open any windows explorer proccess (such as folders, internet explorer, start manu...)I scanned for Viruses, spyware, malware etc, with no results. system restore (for some reason all my system restore points prior to the beginning of the week have been erased) does nothing. for the time being, I see no proccess or services that I think might be the problem.is there a way to solve this, without format?thx. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum.Taskbar: could it be that it's hidden? Can you pull it up from its hiding place (when the cursor shows an up/down arrow)?Explorer: can you check what the Event Viewer shows at the time you tried to launch it?One thing to try: boot into Last Known Good Configuration, but it may already be too late. But no need for a complete reformat; you can always try a repair install.

-pops-
System Restore to a time before this happened?Re-install/restore from your backup?
PriorTak
I dont have any backup of my system drive, unless windows auto-creates one that I dont know about...and as I already said, for some unknown reason all my restore points were deleted until the beginning of the week. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Run the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) for the case any system files are corrupted or missing. If that doesn't help, it leaves only a repair install.
