susan Posted October 31, 2007 Report Share Posted October 31, 2007 Hi,I get the error often: "disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter".But i switched off the system and after 10,15 mins if I start it will work.In my office only my system has this problem among 8 other systems. Iam confused why this problem comes often. -pops- Posted October 31, 2007 Report Share Posted October 31, 2007 This needs urgent attention. It is a sign of a failing hard drive. If you don't have a full system backup, prepare one without delay. Also you need to urgently replace the failing drive as soon you will get the startup message but it will not manage to start after a time delay. I know - it happened to me a few weeks ago but I didn't get as many warnings as you are getting before the drive died completely. It wasn't too much of a problem for me, though, I was running again after less than an hour after replacing the drive and re-installing everything from my backup. vitek Posted November 1, 2007 Report Share Posted November 1, 2007 This error potentially will refer to a failing HDD but not 100%. It could be corrupted system file or a bad sector on the hard drive. One thing is for sure that you will need to backup all your data ASAP and then you or your IT personnel can troubleshoot the issue. The easiest method to determine of the HDD is failing is to get a utility called DFT 32, I believe it's a freeware. Boot form the DFT 32 floppy and run Advance Test on the disk. If results are Ok, start the Excisiser Test and if that passes, its not the drive. Assuming HDD is Ok, you can boot from Win XP CD and go into a Repair Console and run Check Disk "chkdsk /r" that will check the hard drive for errors and bad sectors. I've seen many times when check disks corrects the errors and system will boot normally. You can also check Windows protected files by executing the following command in Run "sfc /scannow" (you will need to have WinXP CD available); it will scan all windows system files and replace them if necessary.
