gordythegouge Posted October 31, 2007 Report Share Posted October 31, 2007 Hi,can anyone tell me why or where Windows stores the Passwords we use for various functions and software? I've been using CrapCleaner on a regular basis, assuming that everything of a dangerous nature, ie paypal passwords etc, were being wiped, but lo and behold, after using PCWizard recently to find out some info on my hardware, I clicked the password option and was appaled to find a list of passwords, some of them going back several years! What's going on? Don't get me wrong...it is nice to know that I can now check my son's University results without him knowing........but I really don't feel safe knowing that all these passwords are stored somewhere, inaccessible, to my eyes anyway, on my PC. vitek Posted November 1, 2007 Report Share Posted November 1, 2007 For internet related passwords like PayPay, you want to go to Internet Options --->Content--->AutoComplete and then Clear Passwords. Also uncheck the box "User names and passwords on forms" that way Internet Explorer will not memorize the password when you login into sites. For other passwords it will be more difficult since some of them are stored in the registry and other under .psw files in older versions of Windows.
