XP Pro Fresh Install

Hey,

I had XP home edition and I wiped out my drive where it was installed (C: drive), and did a fresh XP pro edition installation. It works fine, but when I turn on my computer it asks me to choose between XP home and XP pro, I don't have home edition anymore, why is it asking me this?

Are you sure that you don't have XP Home any more? Because the boot menu usually only comes up when more than one Windows system is installed. Check what happens if you select XP Home.

If really nothing happens, and it doesn't boot into XP Home, then... something strange has happened. In that case you can edit your boot.ini file using msconfig; just delete the XP Home entry. For more information on the boot.ini file see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Can you tell me what to type to delete the home edition entry.

It says type bootcfg /delete /ID#, but I'm not sure what the ID# is for the Home Edition. I tried bootcfg /delete /2, but it gives me an error.

This looks like you have two partitions with two operating system versions [XP Pro (1), and XP Home (2)].

Before you delete anything, click on 'Check All Boot Paths'; this will confirm if you really do have the two partitions with two operating systems.

If you look at your HD with Windows Explorer, what partitions (drive letters) do you see, and what do they contain?

P.S. once you are ready to delete that boot entry, the command is bootcfg /delete /ID 2

I recommend that you make a copy of your boot.ini file before you start manipulating it.

Is it possible that it's an installation/recovery partition

I checked my C drive and it only contains Win XP Pro, and my D drive is my personal files.

I deleted the second entry, and now it doesn't show up when I boot my computer.
