WINXP Shutdown

Win XP Pro HP machine. When trying to shut down, machine goes through the proces and then restarts. Exactly the same as when I select Restart.

Have tried the WIN 98 posted suggestion - Regedit (Winlogon - Power down after shutdown = 1).

Restarted and then tried it again, still the same results, instead of shutdown, it restarts. Must ust power button to turn machine off. Not a big problem but very annoying.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

The shutdown problem has been "on-going" for quite a while. Just been living with it and finally tried to do something about it. Per HP, machine is no longer under warranty adn therefore they can't help we unless I use the Pay for Service plan ($25.00). For that I can push the power button a lot of times.
