Can't Install BITS

I did a complete factory reset of My Sony Vaio. The OS is Windows XP professional. Now I cannot get it to update to SP2 because It won't update anything till it has installed Background Intelligent Transfer Service. This always fails to install, but gives no reason.

Anyone got any ideas.

Phil

Just came across this fix for Vista-based computers....

VISTA FIX HERE

You would imagine that there must be something similar for XP Professional.

Someone appears to have had a similar problem in the following....

LOOK THROUGH THIS

Alternatively, try using this service (I believe it's free)....

If nothing else helps, have a look at this article

I know it is very long, but there are many different kind of problems with BITS.

The easiest would be if you could provide the error code that prevents BITS from installing / functioning correctly. You could try to check the Event Log for an error number, but it may also be found in the C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpdate.log
