I've read that I need Windows XP Setup boot disks to start, but i don't have floppy drive. Is there a way to put this boot disks on a pendrive? AdamB Posted February 4, 2008 Report Share Posted February 4, 2008 Hi malam,I think the hard drives are SATA.If so, that could be why Windows XP isnt able to see the drives. Windows VISTA has built in support for SATA Drives.You can download the HDD drivers and either stick them on to a medium, Press F6 (i think) during XP setup to install the drivers (you have to be quick). Or you could integrate the drivers into a Windows XP disc using some software.Another option is in some laptops...(the HP should have it) to enable the drive to be read as IDE by XP Setup. What it turned out to be was a BIOS setting called AHCI, which for all intents and purposes is not really useful on a laptop. The problem is that no drivers exist for Windows XP, so you have disable it in your BIOS. I will attempt to upload some snapshots for you to see what I'm talking about, but here's a brief overview.1. Boot into your BIOS.2. Dig through your settings, there should be one that lists AHCI option.3. Disable it. NOTE: On some systems, you have to also disable an option called TurboSomething. Your BIOS will alert you if you need to do this.4. Reboot to your Windows XP CD, you should now be able to install XP.I'll add screenshots a little later to show you what I mean. Raddy Posted February 4, 2008 Report Share Posted February 4, 2008 Okay, here we go.1. Enter your BIOS (This is a Dell Inspiron, so it's probably not going to look exactly the same)2. Look through "Onboard Devices" or anything else that has a similar name. You're looking for something that controls SATA Operation.3. Switch the option from AHCI to ATA.4. On my computer, it told me that I would have to disable the Flash Cache Module before disabling AHCI. If it tells you something like that, do it also and then go back and disable AHCI.5.
