Hidden files and folders

Dear All

I am having dell laptop with windows xp home edition now from few days i am facing a problem that my hidden files and folders are not visible and i can't access them.

i tried through Folder options to view saying show my hidden files but system is not taking.

once i did system restore it worked. but now again same problem. even system restore is not working.

please help me to solve this

Please confirm that you having been trying to enable Hidden Files as below :-

Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.

Double-click the My Computer icon.

Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

After the new window appears select the View tab.

Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.

Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labelled Hide file extensions for known file types.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labelled Hide protected operating system files.

Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.

Your computer should now be configured to show all hidden files.

Showing them does of course cause there to be a risk of fouling something up. They are hidden for a reason. :D

for you response i did that procedure what you explained in detail but un fortunately it is not fruitfull.

Are you trying this when you have Adminstrator permissions ?

this is the most common question I've ever seen

ok.... to be honest.... I would suspect you are infected

To make sure of this try this

go to command prompt:

start ==> run ==> cmd.exe

type these commands

cd\

c:

attrib

now some files will be shown look among them if you can find file called autorun.inf
