I just joined this forum, I hope to get some issues solved and hope to help others as well - you guys look like a great group to work with - anyways heres my first post, hope it can be solved---

------------

Ok so I've been through countless forums trying to solve my issue and to no avail I have arrived at just posting what seems to be a very unique problem.

Ok so as you may have guessed, my "Hide inactive icons" does not work. I have tried to restart, tried the fixes from http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, and nothing worked.

Basically what happens is this, I start up, there is no chevron (little arrow) so I go to the taskbar and click properties, and turn on "hide inactive icons" and still nothing. So I click "Customize" (This is where its unique) BAM nothing in the list. There used to be stuff there, and then for no reason it all went away.

I tried to click "restore defaults" but nothing happens the list stays blank. I tried a registry fix I found, but nothing. One final note. After I click to activate the "hide inactive icons' and punching apply, my comp thinks for a bit, and then i can click ok, but nothing so I reopen the properties and WOW its unchecked.

Please help

I'm running:

Pentium 4 - 3.2Ghz

ASUS P4c800-E

2Gbs RAM

74Gb Raptor - with Windows XP Media Center 2005 Rollup 2 (basically xp pro with a media app B) )

and an nvidia GeForce FX 5950

In your Registry, under :-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Policies | Explorer

Do you have in the R/H pane the following two keys ?

NoAutoTrayNotify

NoTrayItemsDisplay

Hey thanks all for trying. To answer Boris, I do not have either of those in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Policies | Explorer

and yes to re-iterate to Irene, I don't have anything coming up in the list when i hit customize, so I can't mark an item to be "Always Show" I'm not sure how this happened but thanks for trying.

You could try removing the

NoTrayItemsDisplay

from

HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Policies | Explorer

I do not have any of the four entries I asked about above showing in my Registry and mine works fine.

I do however suggest that you back up your registry first using something like ERUNT

Details

as a precaution :)
