Yes that is a WORK document and is compatible with MS Word. You said you open the as attachments? You mean, you open then directly from an email? Try saving it to your desktop first then open it. Sometimes I open a Word document directly from an email and if there is special formating, it doesn't show right unless I save it first. It's wierd, I know.

Apparently Works came with a Xp Dell laptop.

It seems Works is a students' budget program.

I guess mail to another student will be opened by Works WP

Otherwise chaos reigns??

Are Windows staff out there aware??

What exactly are you trying to do. If you are trying to open a Word Document without Microsoft word, you may want to try the free Word Viewer @ http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

If you are trying to create or edit Word Documents, you can try OpenOffice as it has the ability to save as a doc format.
