Alan2273 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Share Posted February 8, 2008 Has anyone else got one of these, I brought one about a month ago and it is a great bit of kit.I am running the supplied version of Xandros with the advanced desktop, but I have tried XP on it.You can really try anything on it and if you mess the OS up you just press F9 and reset it to factory condition, which takes about 5 minutes.It takes about 20 seconds to boot up to a usable desktop.One of these might be ideal for Panarcy to practice on for multi booting and learning GRUB, as he will hose his system. Alan2273 Posted February 8, 2008 Author Report Share Posted February 8, 2008 I have the 4GB model with 2GB memory fitted, I brought it of Amazon.com for £257 including P&P.I added the extra memory myself.If you want to upgrade the memory, only go to 1Gb as you need to know command line to get it to recognise 2Gb's of memory in Xandros as Asus have set a 1GB limit, and you also have to flash the BIOS twice. Mike567 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Share Posted February 8, 2008 Is it worth the money?Personally I have a 14" compaq laptop which I brought for £60 which runs linux, and I find it hard enough to use a large laptop keyboard when i switch, I couldn't imagine trying to switch between a 7" laptop!! AlanHo Posted February 8, 2008 Report Share Posted February 8, 2008 My son is a long haul airline captain and is always moaning about the weight of his laptop which has has to lug about in order to access the internet etc from remote locations and use for his scheduling etc. He sometimes connects via a wireless hot spot - sometimes in less well equipped places with an internal dial up modemI am wondering if this machine would do the business for him - he does not require a big keyboard or screen - just ones that are enough to keep in touch with base.
