porsche4786 Posted February 13, 2008 Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 My computer downloaded microsoft updates last night. I wanted me to restart the computers, so I did. After that it tried to restart but would get about half way then just restart itself. Then the screen came up asking if I wanted to boot normally, safe mode, etc... -pops- Posted February 13, 2008 Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 Try this: When you get the black screen with the boot normally, safe mode etc. just leave it to count down the 30 seconds and see what happens. It may start normally if you just leave it. I had a similar problem the other week after installing a new program where the re-boot stalled. I restarted and got the same screen as you are getting. All I did was let it carry on on its own and everything is now OK.May not work but, nothing to lose.After I told it to restart, I walked away. When I came back I saw it on the screen with the windows bar going accross the screen and I thought, 'this is going really slow'. Then it shut off and tried to start again, I'm assuming that it did this a couple times because I was gone for a few minutes. But I will try it again when I get home. Thanks. -pops- Posted February 13, 2008 Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 If it doesn't work, boot into safe mode and System Restore to before you installed the latest updates.You could also try a "cold reboot" where you physically disconnect the computer from the power supply, give it a few minutes for the residual currents to die away and then restart.I've not heard of others having problems with this batch of updates so, it may be "just one of those things" and if you repeat the install it may be OK.
